I've just begun studying Japanese, after years of waiting. I watch anime and read manga, and it will be nice to be able to read and understand the original material without relying on a translator. I'm also planning in going abroad, either during the summer or the year after I graduate, and I would love to be able to go to Japan.
I haven't studied a modern language since middle school - Latin and ancient Greek don't involve much of a verbal component. I'm excited to see what it will be like to be able speak a new language, but also a little worried that I'll have trouble with it. It's been a little bit hard for me to speak up enough when I'm afraid that I'm saying something wrong. Have patience with me, please! That said, since the beginning of the year I've added another goal for this class - to be able to understand and join in the conversations among the 5 out of 7 of my roommates who are (at least roughly) fluent in Japanese. I think that will be a good motivation.
Till next time,
Carton

ReplyDeleteすごい、(cool!) five or your 7 roommates speak にほんご! I wish I had that, although they would probably get tired of me trying to practice with them all the time. Yeah, anime and manga are 20% of the reason I am taking this language, which series do you like?
